Description

Create spooky and delicious Vampire Bite Red Velvet Cupcakes perfect for your Halloween party. These cupcakes are moist, rich, and feature a unique ‘bite’ detail for a festive touch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 drops red food coloring
  • Cream cheese frosting
  • Black piping gel or edible black marker

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, vinegar, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Mix well.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cupcakes cool in the muffin tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, frost the cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.
  9. To create the ‘vampire bite’, use a small paring knife to carefully cut a small semi-circle from the top edge of each cupcake.
  10. Use black piping gel or an edible black marker to draw a thin line along the cut edge to mimic a bite mark.

Notes

  • For a deeper red color, you can use more red food coloring.
  • Ensure your buttermilk is at room temperature for best results.
  • You can make your own buttermilk by adding 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice to 1 cup of milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Get creative with decorations! You can add edible googly eyes or sprinkle with red sanding sugar.
