Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups Apple Cider
- 2 Cinnamon Sticks
- 4 Whole Cloves
- 1 Star Anise
- 1 Orange, sliced
- 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Pour the apple cider into a medium saucepan.
- Add the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and star anise to the cider.
- Add the orange slices to the saucepan.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat until it simmers. Do not allow it to boil vigorously.
- If you prefer a sweeter drink, stir in the brown sugar until it dissolves.
- Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for 15 to 20 minutes to allow the spices to infuse.
- Remove from heat. Discard the whole spices and orange slices before serving, or leave them in the mug for garnish.
- Pour into mugs and enjoy this comforting beverage immediately.
Notes
- For an extra layer of flavor, you can add a small piece of fresh ginger while simmering.
- If you do not have whole cloves, you can use 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves, but whole spices give a clearer flavor.
- Taste the cider before adding sugar; the natural sweetness of the cider varies.
