Description

Make this Quick & Easy Skillet Chinese Pepper Steak Stir Fry for a flavorful weeknight dinner. You get tender beef strips, crisp bell peppers, and onions coated in a savory sauce. It tastes just like your favorite takeout but is ready fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (for marinade)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (for marinade)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 large green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 large red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for sauce thickening)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, toss the sliced steak with 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 1 teaspoon cornstarch. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook in batches until browned. Remove beef and set aside.
  3. Add bell peppers and onion to the skillet. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
  4. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, 1/4 cup soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
  7. Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Toss everything together until the beef is coated and heated through.
  8. Serve immediately, preferably over steamed rice.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the beef for up to 30 minutes.
  • Use any color combination of bell peppers you enjoy.
  • If you prefer a spicier dish, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the garlic.
