Description

Make this easy Oreo dirt cake, a creamy, no-bake dessert layered with chocolate pudding and crushed Oreos. It is a perfect party dessert idea and a potluck favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.3 ounces) Oreo cookies, divided
  • 1 package (3.9 ounces) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 container (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Set aside about 1 cup of the Oreo cookies for the topping. Place the remaining Oreos into a food processor and pulse until you have fine crumbs resembling dirt.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk for about two minutes until the mixture thickens. Let it stand for five minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the thawed whipped topping and vanilla extract, mixing until just combined. Gently fold the whipped topping mixture into the thickened pudding until uniform.
  4. In a large trifle dish or 9×13 inch pan, create the first layer by spreading half of the crushed Oreo crumbs evenly across the bottom.
  5. Spread half of the creamy pudding mixture over the Oreo layer.
  6. Repeat the layers: spread the remaining crushed Oreo crumbs over the pudding, followed by the remaining pudding mixture.
  7. Sprinkle the reserved crushed Oreos over the top layer to resemble dirt.
  8. Cover the dish and chill in the refrigerator for at least four hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the dessert to set properly.

Notes

  • For a fun presentation, you can prepare this in individual clear cups to make single-serving dirt pudding cups.
  • If you do not have a food processor, place the Oreos in a large zip-top bag and crush them using a rolling pin.
  • This recipe works well as a kid friendly dessert because it requires no baking.
