Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (5 ounces) tuna, drained
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped celery
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon sweet pickle relish
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 slices of your favorite bread
  • 1 slice of cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or provolone work well)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your broiler.
  2. In a bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, chopped celery, chopped onion, and pickle relish.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to your liking. Mix well.
  4. Toast one side of each slice of bread.
  5. Place the untoasted side of one slice of bread onto a baking sheet.
  6. Spread the tuna mixture evenly over the untoasted side of the bread.
  7. Top the tuna mixture with the slice of cheese.
  8. Broil for 2-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown. Keep a close eye on it to prevent burning.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of paprika or a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the tuna mixture.
  • If you don’t have a broiler, you can bake the open-faced tuna melt at 375°F (190°C) for about 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
