Moist Chocolate Mug Cake (Microwave)

  • Author: Lina Kohn

Description

Make a rich, single-serving chocolate cake in minutes using only your microwave.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 4 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 Tablespoons milk
  • 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 Tablespoon chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a standard microwave-safe mug (about 10-12 oz), whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  2. Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir well until the batter is smooth and no dry pockets remain. Do not overmix.
  3. Stir in the chocolate chips, if using.
  4. Place the mug in the microwave. Cook on high power for 60 to 90 seconds. Cooking time varies based on microwave wattage; start with 60 seconds.
  5. The cake is done when the top looks set but still slightly moist. If it is still very wet, microwave in 10-second increments until done.
  6. Let the cake cool in the mug for one minute before eating directly from the mug.

Notes

  • For an extra gooey center, press one square of chocolate into the center of the batter before microwaving.
  • Use any standard milk substitute, like almond or soy milk, for a dairy-free version.
  • Top with a scoop of ice cream or a dusting of powdered sugar after cooking.
