- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup ketchup (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch casserole dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Spread the meat mixture evenly into the prepared casserole dish.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the dish from the oven. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the meatloaf mixture.
- Spoon the ketchup over the cheese layer.
- Return to the oven and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For a cheesier result, you can layer half the cheese before the first bake and the rest before the final bake.
- Add 1 cup of frozen mixed vegetables into the meat mixture for extra nutrition.
- This recipe makes great leftovers for lunch the next day.
