- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 12 lasagna noodles, broken into pieces
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook Italian sausage over medium-high heat until browned. Drain off excess fat.
- Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir in oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- Add broken lasagna noodles to the skillet, ensuring they are mostly submerged in the sauce. Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until noodles are tender, stirring occasionally.
- While noodles cook, in a small bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
- Once noodles are cooked, dollop spoonfuls of the ricotta mixture over the top of the lasagna.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the ricotta and sauce.
- Cover the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes, or until the mozzarella is melted and bubbly.
- Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

- For a spicier lasagna, use hot Italian sausage.
- You can substitute ground beef or turkey for the Italian sausage.
