Description
A recipe for making refreshing iced peach green tea using homemade peach syrup.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups water
- 4 green tea bags (or 4 teaspoons loose leaf green tea, preferably jasmine)
- 1 cup fresh or frozen peach slices
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water (for syrup)
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Make the peach syrup: Combine 1 cup peach slices, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the peaches soften, about 8 to 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let it steep for 15 minutes. Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing on the solids to extract liquid. Discard solids. Let the syrup cool.
- Brew the tea: Bring 4 cups of water to a near boil (about 175°F for green tea). Remove from heat.
- Steep the green tea bags or loose leaves for 3 minutes. Do not over-steep, as green tea can become bitter. Remove tea bags or strain leaves.
- Cool the tea completely by placing it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Assemble the drink: In a large pitcher, combine the cooled green tea and the cooled peach syrup. Stir well.
- To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the peach green tea mixture over the ice.
Notes
- Use jasmine green tea for a flavor similar to popular coffee shop versions.
- Adjust the amount of peach syrup based on your preferred sweetness level.
- For a clearer tea, chill the brewed tea completely before mixing with the syrup.
