Description

Enjoy the warm, inviting flavors of autumn with these homemade Caramel Apple Cider Doughnuts. This recipe combines the comforting taste of apple cider with a sweet caramel glaze for a truly delightful fall treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a doughnut pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the apple cider. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared doughnut pan, filling each mold about two-thirds full. If using a baking sheet, drop spoonfuls of batter to form doughnut shapes.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes for doughnut pan, or 15-18 minutes for baking sheet, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the doughnuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. While the doughnuts are cooling, prepare the caramel glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, caramel sauce, and milk until smooth and pourable. Add more milk if needed to reach desired consistency.
  10. Once the doughnuts are completely cool, dip them into the caramel glaze or drizzle it over them. Let the glaze set before serving.

Notes

  • For a stronger caramel flavor, you can add a pinch of sea salt to the glaze.
  • If you don’t have a doughnut pan, you can bake these as small cake doughnuts on a baking sheet.
  • Ensure your apple cider is reduced slightly for a more concentrated flavor.
