Easy 15-Minute Homemade Alfredo Sauce

Description

Make a rich and creamy classic Alfredo sauce from scratch in under 15 minutes using simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Do not let the butter brown.
  2. Pour in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low.
  3. Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese, a little at a time, until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
  4. Continue stirring constantly for about 2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in the salt and pepper.
  6. Toss immediately with your cooked pasta.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for the best melting and flavor. Pre-shredded cheese often contains anti-caking agents that make the sauce grainy.
  • For a garlic flavor, sauté 1 clove of minced garlic in the butter for one minute before adding the cream.
  • If the sauce becomes too thick upon standing, add a tablespoon of pasta water or milk to thin it slightly.
