Description

A hearty and comforting beef lasagna, perfect for family dinners. This recipe brings the authentic flavors of Italy to your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is tender. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, parsley, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and let it cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. While the sauce is simmering, cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain well.
  5. In a medium bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese and egg.
  6. To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Arrange 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  8. Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
  9. Sprinkle with 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese.
  10. Repeat the layers: sauce, noodles, remaining ricotta mixture, 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese.
  11. Top with the remaining noodles, the rest of the sauce, and the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
  12. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  13. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  14. Remove the foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  15. Let the lasagna stand for 10 minutes before serving for easier slicing.

Notes

  • For a richer sauce, you can add a splash of red wine while the beef is browning.
  • If you prefer a spicier lasagna, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • Ensure your lasagna noodles are fully submerged in the sauce to prevent them from drying out.
