Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 2 cups ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is tender. Drain off any excess grease.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, parsley, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and let it cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the sauce is simmering, cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain well.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese and egg.
- To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Arrange 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
- Sprinkle with 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layers: sauce, noodles, remaining ricotta mixture, 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese.
- Top with the remaining noodles, the rest of the sauce, and the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the lasagna stand for 10 minutes before serving for easier slicing.
Notes
- For a richer sauce, you can add a splash of red wine while the beef is browning.
- If you prefer a spicier lasagna, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
- Ensure your lasagna noodles are fully submerged in the sauce to prevent them from drying out.
