Description
Experience the magic of Grandma’s Secret Apple Pie, a cherished family recipe that delivers an unforgettable taste. This pie features a perfectly flaky crust and a warm, spiced apple filling, making it a true crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 recipe double pie crust
- 6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a 9-inch pie plate with one pie crust. Trim and crimp the edges as desired.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and lemon juice. Ensure the apples are evenly coated.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust. Dot the top of the filling with the small pieces of butter.
- Place the second pie crust over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal. Cut vents in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar, if using.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 400°F (200°C).
- Reduce the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue baking for another 35-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. If the crust starts to brown too quickly, you can loosely tent it with aluminum foil.
- Let the pie cool on a wire rack for at least 2-3 hours before slicing and serving. This allows the filling to set properly.
Notes
- For an extra flavorful crust, you can add a pinch of sugar and cinnamon to the pie crust dough before rolling it out.
- Feel free to adjust the spices to your preference. Some like a bit more cinnamon or nutmeg.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for the ultimate treat.
