Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine melted butter, salt, and egg.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and 2 cups of flour to the wet ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the remaining flour and the 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.
  8. Arrange the dough balls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan.
  9. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  10. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  11. While the rolls are rising, mix the minced garlic and 2 tablespoons of melted butter.
  12. Brush the tops of the risen rolls with the garlic butter mixture.
  13. Sprinkle the tops with the remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese and parsley.
  14. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  15. Brush with remaining melted butter immediately after removing from the oven.

Notes

  • Ensure your milk is the correct temperature for the yeast to activate properly.
  • You can add a pinch of garlic powder to the topping for extra flavor.
  • For softer rolls, you can slightly reduce the flour.
