Make fun, team-spirit Football Sugar Cookies for your next Super Bowl party! These simple cookies are perfect for decorating and sharing.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Food coloring (team colors)
- Royal icing or simple glaze for decorating
Instructions
- Beat the softened butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the dough in half. Color one half with your desired team color food coloring. Leave the other half plain or color it for the opposing team.
- Wrap each dough portion in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Use a football-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Place them on the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Decorate with royal icing or glaze in team colors once fully cooled.
Notes
- Chilling the dough is important for easy handling and clean cookie shapes.
- For a cleaner look, roll out the colored dough directly between two sheets of parchment paper.
- If the dough becomes too soft while cutting, return it to the refrigerator briefly.
