Description

Make fun, team-spirit Football Sugar Cookies for your next Super Bowl party! These simple cookies are perfect for decorating and sharing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (team colors)
  • Royal icing or simple glaze for decorating

Instructions

  1. Beat the softened butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half. Color one half with your desired team color food coloring. Leave the other half plain or color it for the opposing team.
  6. Wrap each dough portion in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  9. Use a football-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  10. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  11. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Decorate with royal icing or glaze in team colors once fully cooled.

Notes

  • Chilling the dough is important for easy handling and clean cookie shapes.
  • For a cleaner look, roll out the colored dough directly between two sheets of parchment paper.
  • If the dough becomes too soft while cutting, return it to the refrigerator briefly.
