Description

This recipe makes a hearty, cheesy Spaghetti Pie, a baked pasta casserole perfect for family dinners or meal prep. It layers spaghetti with a savory meat sauce and a rich blend of ricotta and mozzarella cheeses.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. Cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain well.
  3. While pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and onion. Cook until beef is browned and onion is soft. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in garlic, marinara sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, beaten egg, and Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
  6. In a large bowl, toss the drained spaghetti with the ricotta mixture until evenly coated.
  7. Press half of the spaghetti mixture into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared pie plate to form a crust.
  8. Spoon the meat sauce evenly over the spaghetti base.
  9. Top the sauce with half of the mozzarella cheese.
  10. Layer the remaining spaghetti mixture over the mozzarella.
  11. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese on top.
  12. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges are lightly browned.
  13. Let the pie cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can prepare the meat sauce a day ahead for quicker assembly.
  • Use your favorite store-bought or homemade meat sauce.
  • For a vegetarian option, replace the ground beef with mushrooms or lentils.
  • This pie reheats well, making it great for lunch the next day.
