Description
Make this simple, cheesy pizza casserole using biscuit dough for a quick and hearty weeknight dinner that your family will love.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (16.3 ounce) can refrigerated biscuit dough
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded provolone cheese
- 1/2 cup mini pepperoni slices
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with Italian seasoning and garlic powder until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
- Stir the tomato sauce and water into the cooked beef mixture. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Cut each biscuit into quarters. Place half of the biscuit pieces evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Pour the meat sauce mixture evenly over the biscuit layer.
- Sprinkle half of the mozzarella and provolone cheese over the sauce. Scatter the pepperoni slices on top.
- Top with the remaining biscuit pieces. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top layer of biscuits.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or Italian sausage for the ground beef.
- For a make-ahead option, assemble the casserole completely, cover, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Add 10 minutes to the baking time if baking directly from the refrigerator.
- Use your favorite pizza sauce instead of tomato sauce and water for a stronger flavor.
