Description
This one-pot American goulash is a simple, budget-friendly meal. It features ground beef, macaroni, and tomatoes for a comforting, nostalgic dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes (with their liquid). Add beef broth, uncooked macaroni, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until macaroni is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Remove from heat and let stand for a few minutes before serving. If desired, sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use a combination of ground beef and ground pork.
- Adjust seasonings to your taste.
- Leftovers store well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
