Description

Make this quick and easy Honey Garlic Chicken for a weeknight dinner. It delivers bold, sweet, and savory flavors with a sticky, thick glaze. This recipe focuses on achieving a nice texture fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken pieces lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken and set it aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and ginger. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, and rice vinegar. Pour this mixture into the skillet. Bring to a simmer.
  5. In a separate small bowl, whisk the cornstarch and water until smooth to create a slurry.
  6. Pour the slurry into the simmering sauce while stirring constantly. Cook until the sauce thickens significantly, about 1-2 minutes. This creates your thick glaze.
  7. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet. Toss well to coat every piece evenly with the sticky honey garlic sauce.
  8. Stir in the red pepper flakes, if using.
  9. Serve immediately over rice or noodles, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • For extra crispy edges, cook the chicken in batches and avoid overcrowding the pan.
  • If you prefer chicken thighs, they remain juicier and work very well in this recipe.
  • Taste the sauce before adding the chicken; adjust sweetness with more honey or tang with more vinegar if needed.
