Description

Enjoy these comforting, classic baked apples, perfect for a cool evening. We stuff crisp apples with a sweet, warm filling of brown sugar, cinnamon, and oats. This simple dessert brings the cozy flavors of fall right to your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large firm apples (like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a small baking dish.
  2. Wash the apples. Using an apple corer or a small knife, carefully remove the core from the top of each apple, leaving about 1/2 inch at the bottom intact. Do not push through the bottom.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, oats, and flour. Mix well.
  4. Take half of the butter pieces and place one piece into the cavity of each cored apple.
  5. Spoon the sugar-oat mixture evenly into the center cavity of each apple, pressing it down lightly. Top each apple with the remaining small pieces of butter.
  6. Place the prepared apples into the greased baking dish. Pour the 2 tablespoons of water into the bottom of the dish around the apples.
  7. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork but still hold their shape. Basting the apples with the liquid in the pan halfway through baking helps keep them moist.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • Use firm apples that hold their shape during baking. Softer apples may turn to mush.
  • Serve these warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for an extra treat.
  • If you prefer a crispier topping, increase the oats to 1/3 cup and use melted butter instead of pieces.
