Description

Bake this classic Apple Cobbler for a warm, comforting dessert. It features tender, cinnamon-spiced apples beneath a rich, buttery, biscuit-style topping. It is perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for apples)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Spread the spiced apples evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt for the topping.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Stir in the milk just until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the dough evenly over the apple mixture, leaving small gaps between the mounds.
  7. Sprinkle the top with coarse sugar.
  8. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
  9. Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving warm, perhaps with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Use a mix of apple varieties for deeper flavor.
  • For a richer topping flavor, use buttermilk instead of regular milk.
  • You can add a small amount of nutmeg to the apple mixture for extra warmth.
