Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons cold water
Instructions
- Season the steak cubes evenly with salt and pepper.
- Place the seasoned steak cubes into the bottom of your slow cooker.
- Scatter the butter pieces over the steak.
- Pour the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce over the steak and butter.
- Sprinkle the minced garlic and Italian seasoning on top.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours, or on high for 1.5 to 2 hours, until the steak is tender.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water to create a slurry.
- Stir the slurry into the slow cooker juices.
- Increase the heat setting to high (if it was on low) and cook uncovered for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens into a gravy.
- Serve the steak bites immediately over mashed potatoes or rice.
Notes
- For extra flavor, sear the steak cubes in a hot skillet with a little oil for 1-2 minutes per side before adding them to the slow cooker.
- If you prefer a whole cut, use a 2-3 lb sirloin roast and cook for 6-8 hours on low, shredding the meat before adding the thickening slurry.
- You can add 1 cup of sliced mushrooms or small potatoes during the last hour of cooking.
