Description
Make the best crispy onion rings for your next game day gathering. This recipe delivers a light, crunchy coating that stays crisp, perfect for dipping!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large yellow onions
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Slice the onions into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the flour, salt, pepper, and paprika.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and eggs.
- Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third shallow dish.
- Dip each onion ring first into the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Next, dip the floured ring into the milk and egg mixture, letting excess drip off.
- Finally, coat the ring thoroughly in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to adhere. Place coated rings on a baking sheet.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully fry the onion rings in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crisp, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Do not overcrowd the pot.
- Remove the cooked rings with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack set over paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, chill the coated onion rings for 15 minutes before frying.
- Use a thermometer to monitor the oil temperature; too low results in soggy rings.
- Serve these immediately for the best texture.
