- 1 pound spaghetti
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion and minced garlic over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
- In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spread half of the cooked spaghetti.
- Top with the ricotta mixture.
- Spread the remaining spaghetti over the ricotta mixture.
- Pour the meat sauce evenly over the spaghetti.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce for a little heat.
- Feel free to mix in some cooked vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms with the meat sauce.
- This casserole can be assembled ahead of time and baked just before serving.
