Description

A classic tuna melt sandwich, featuring creamy tuna salad and melted cheese grilled between bread slices.


Ingredients

  • 1 can (5 ounces) tuna, drained
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped celery
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon sweet pickle relish
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices bread
  • 2 slices cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or provolone)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened


Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, celery, onion, and pickle relish.
  2. Season with salt and pepper to your liking. Mix well to create the tuna salad.
  3. Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
  4. Place two slices of bread, butter-side down, in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Divide the tuna salad evenly between the two slices of bread in the skillet.
  6. Top the tuna salad with a slice of cheese on each sandwich.
  7. Place the remaining two slices of bread on top of the cheese, butter-side up.
  8. Grill for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from skillet, slice in half if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of Dijon mustard to the tuna salad.
  • Experiment with different types of cheese for a unique taste.
