Description

Make a Classic Old Fashioned Egg Custard Pie with a creamy, silky texture. This recipe honors the traditional methods learned from generations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 unbaked pie crust (9-inch)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place the unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, and salt until well combined.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually whisk in the whole milk until the mixture is smooth. Do not overbeat the mixture.
  5. Pour the custard filling carefully into the unbaked pie crust.
  6. Sprinkle a light pinch of nutmeg over the top of the filling.
  7. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the center is just set. A knife inserted near the edge should come out clean.
  8. Let the pie cool completely on a wire rack before slicing. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For a silkier texture, you can strain the custard mixture before pouring it into the crust.
  • If you want a slightly firmer custard, increase the baking time by a few minutes.
  • This pie is wonderful served plain or with a light dusting of cinnamon.
  • This recipe is perfect for a traditional Christmas Eve dessert.
