Description
Create delicious cinnamon apple chips, a perfect seasonal snack. Enjoy the warm, comforting flavors of autumn with this easy recipe.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C).
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly.
- Core the apples, then slice them as thinly as possible, about 1/16 inch thick. A mandoline is helpful for achieving uniform slices.
- In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and nutmeg (if using). If you prefer sweeter chips, mix the sugar with the cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Do not overlap them.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon mixture evenly over both sides of the apple slices.
- Bake for 2-3 hours, or until the apple chips are dry and crisp. The exact time will depend on your oven and the thickness of your slices.
- Flip the apple slices halfway through baking to ensure even drying.
- Once baked, turn off the oven and let the apple chips cool completely in the oven with the door slightly ajar. This helps them crisp up further.
- Store the cooled cinnamon apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature.
Notes
- Use firm apples like Gala, Fuji, or Honeycrisp for the best results.
- For extra crispiness, you can bake them for a longer period or at a slightly lower temperature.
- If you don’t have a mandoline, a sharp knife can be used, but aim for consistent thickness.
