Description
Make this zesty, creamy cilantro lime sauce in just five minutes. It is a versatile green sauce perfect for tacos, grilled chicken, or as a dipping sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup fresh cilantro, packed
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise or Greek yogurt for a healthier option
- 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 small jalapeño, seeds removed (optional, for a spicy cilantro sauce)
- 2 tablespoons water or milk (to thin, if needed)
Instructions
- Rinse the cilantro well and pat it dry. Remove any thick stems.
- Place the cilantro, mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt), lime juice, garlic, salt, pepper, and optional jalapeño into a food processor or high-speed blender.
- Process the ingredients until the sauce is completely smooth and creamy. Stop and scrape down the sides as necessary.
- If the sauce is too thick for your liking, add water or milk one tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency for this versatile green sauce.
- Taste the sauce and adjust salt or lime juice as needed.
- Transfer the homemade cilantro lime sauce to an airtight container. You can use it immediately or chill it for later.
Notes
- For a vegan cilantro lime sauce option, substitute the mayonnaise with a vegan mayonnaise or use silken tofu.
- This sauce is excellent as a fish taco sauce recipe or a lime dipping sauce for vegetables.
- If you prefer a less intense garlic flavor, use only one clove of garlic.
