Quick and Creamy Cilantro Lime Sauce Recipe

  • Author: Ahazzam
  • Total Time: 5 min
  • Yield: About 1 cup
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Make this zesty, creamy cilantro lime sauce in just five minutes. It is a versatile green sauce perfect for tacos, grilled chicken, or as a dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro, packed
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise or Greek yogurt for a healthier option
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeds removed (optional, for a spicy cilantro sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons water or milk (to thin, if needed)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cilantro well and pat it dry. Remove any thick stems.
  2. Place the cilantro, mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt), lime juice, garlic, salt, pepper, and optional jalapeño into a food processor or high-speed blender.
  3. Process the ingredients until the sauce is completely smooth and creamy. Stop and scrape down the sides as necessary.
  4. If the sauce is too thick for your liking, add water or milk one tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency for this versatile green sauce.
  5. Taste the sauce and adjust salt or lime juice as needed.
  6. Transfer the homemade cilantro lime sauce to an airtight container. You can use it immediately or chill it for later.

Notes

  • For a vegan cilantro lime sauce option, substitute the mayonnaise with a vegan mayonnaise or use silken tofu.
  • This sauce is excellent as a fish taco sauce recipe or a lime dipping sauce for vegetables.
  • If you prefer a less intense garlic flavor, use only one clove of garlic.
