Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (6 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan to form the crust.
- Bake the crust for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden.
- Remove the pan from the oven. Immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot crust.
- If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts over the chocolate chips.
- Return the pan to the oven for 2-3 minutes, or until the chocolate chips are softened.
- Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the crust.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet.
- Ensure the butter is at room temperature for the best crust texture.
- Allow the bars to cool completely for clean cuts.
