- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 hot dogs
- 8 hot dog buns
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Optional toppings: mustard, chopped raw onion
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef and onion in a skillet. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, kidney beans, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer the chili mixture for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. This lets the flavors blend.
- Cook the hot dogs according to package directions (grill, boil, or pan-fry).
- Warm the hot dog buns.
- Place a cooked hot dog in each bun.
- Spoon a generous amount of chili over the hot dog.
- Top immediately with shredded cheddar cheese so it melts nicely.
- Add any extra toppings you like. Serve hot and enjoy the game!
