- 4 large bell peppers, any color
- 1 pound ground meat (beef, turkey, or chicken)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut the bell peppers in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and membranes.
- In a skillet, brown the ground meat with the chopped onion and minced garlic. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, cooked rice, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Fill the bell pepper halves with the meat mixture.
- Place the stuffed peppers in a baking dish.
- Cover the baking dish with foil.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and sprinkle with cheese, if using.
- Bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the peppers are tender and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
