Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 cup finely diced apples
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- For the Glaze:
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Stir in granulated sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt until well combined.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and roll it out into a 12×18 inch rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread softened butter evenly over the dough.
- In a small bowl, mix together cinnamon and brown sugar. Sprinkle evenly over the buttered dough.
- Scatter the diced apples over the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Roll the dough up tightly, starting from the long side. Pinch the seam to seal.
- Cut the roll into 12 equal slices.
- Place slices in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While rolls are baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract for the glaze.
- Drizzle glaze over warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh apples.
- Ensure your milk is the correct temperature for the yeast to activate properly.
- Don’t over-knead the dough; it should be soft and slightly sticky.
- Allow the dough to rise in a warm, draft-free spot.
- Adjust baking time based on your oven.
