  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 1/4 cups apple cider
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon


Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves.
  2. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together apple cider, 1/2 cup sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).
  5. While the oil heats, prepare the cinnamon sugar coating by combining 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon in a shallow dish.
  6. Carefully drop tablespoons of batter into the hot oil, frying 3-4 donuts at a time. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  7. Remove donuts with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. While still warm, toss the donuts in the cinnamon sugar mixture until well coated.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade apple cider donuts!
