Description
Make perfectly crispy tortilla strips in your air fryer with minimal oil for garnishing soups and salads.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 corn tortillas
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
Instructions
- Cut the corn tortillas into thin strips, about 1/4 inch wide.
- In a medium bowl, toss the tortilla strips with the oil until lightly coated.
- Sprinkle the salt, chili powder, and cumin over the strips and toss again to distribute the seasoning evenly.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
- Place the seasoned tortilla strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
- Air fry for 6 to 8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time.
- Check the strips at 6 minutes; they should be golden brown and crisp. If they are not crisp enough, continue cooking in 1-minute intervals.
- Remove the strips from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving. They will crisp up more as they cool.
Notes
- If the strips move around during air frying, place a small, air-fryer-safe rack or a metal skewer across the top of the basket to hold them down.
- For extra crunch, you can lightly spritz the strips with water before seasoning.
- Adjust seasoning to your taste; consider adding garlic powder or smoked paprika.
