Description

Enjoy the classic sweet and savory taste of Mongolian beef made quickly at home. This recipe delivers takeout flavor in under 20 minutes, perfect for a fast and delicious meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Green onions, sliced, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine sliced flank steak with 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Toss to coat and let it marinate for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Sear for 1-2 minutes per side until browned. Remove beef from skillet and set aside.
  3. Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the beef broth. In a separate small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 1/4 cup water until smooth.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
  6. Return the seared beef to the skillet. Toss to coat the beef evenly in the thickened sauce. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the beef is heated through and coated.
  7. Serve immediately, garnished with sliced green onions.

Notes

  • For best results, slice the steak against the grain.
  • Adjust the sugar and soy sauce to your preference.
  • Serve with steamed rice for a complete meal.
